DOCUMENTING WCC'S HISTORY

Archives / Oral History Committee

Chair: Anne-Sophie Martz

The ARCHIVES & ORAL HISTORY COMMITTEE ensures that WCC’s records documenting its history, activities and efforts are well-organized, complete and accessible. The Committee also makes sure that the life works of some of its members are recorded for posterity.

2007 – 2008 PRIORITIES

ARCHIVES:
The ARCHIVES of the Women’s City Club of New York were conceived of and initiated in 1983 by historian and WCC member Professor Elisabeth Israels Perry under the guidance of WCC President June Farmer (1982-1986). They contain selected photographs, letters, original research, committee reports and minutes of meetings, president’s office files, informational brochures, position papers, fund raising files, press releases, chronology files, newspaper articles and clippings. Currently, the Collection covers WCC’s work from 1916-2005. Periodically, the committee organizes materials for addition to the Archives.

The ARCHIVES are housed at the HUNTER COLLEGE ARCHIVES & RARE BOOKS LIBRARY located in the West Building of Hunter College of the City University of New York at East 68th Street and Lexington Avenue, New York City. Since 1993, WCC’s documents have been processed, maintained and catalogued under the supervision of Hunter College Archivist and Librarian, Professor Julio Hernandez-Delgado.

The guide to the items in the Archives is entitled, FINDING AID: RECORDS OF THE WOMEN’S CITY CLUB OF NEW YORK, INC. 1916 – 2005. 2ND EDITION.
