The COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE, working with WCC staff, tells members, the public and the press who the Women’s City Club is, what it does and how, and where the WCC stands on public policy issues.
2007 – 2008 PRIORITIES
CALENDAR
• The monthly CALENDAR of WCC events is coordinated by WCC staff and is mailed to about 800 individuals and organizations, including WCC members, public and elected officials, nonprofit civic and community groups and corporate partners.
• CALENDAR is posted on WCC’s website monthly.
BULLETIN
• The monthly BULLETIN is a members-only communication that provides up-to-date information about WCC members including their achievements and awards, WCC committee activities, upcoming events and special requests for action.
• BULLETIN, mailed with the monthly WCC CALENDAR, frequently supplements the CALENDAR with background on speakers.
• New members are listed as they join the WCC along with their professions.
AGENDA
• AGENDA is WCC’s major voice in print with a distribution of about 800.
• AGENDA reports on WCC’s policy and advocacy actions including positions approved by the board, and communications with public and elected officials.
• In articles written by members that summarize the content of presentations, AGENDA reports on selected public programs organized by the WCC.
• AGENDA reports on WCC special events including the annual Neuberger Lecture, and those honored at the Civic Spirit Awards event.
• Reaching beyond the immediate WCC community, AGENDA is mailed to public and elected officials, representatives of civic and community groups and corporate partners.
• AGENDA is posted on WCC’s website.
MEDIA RELATIONS & COMMUNITY OUTREACH
• Staff distribute news of each WCC public program and event electronically to local press outlets and to many civic and community organizations for their calendar listings.
• Press releases are emailed and followed by a telephone call to selected reporters at major NYC dailies and weeklies.
• Frequent notices of WCC events are published and/or posted in the New York Times Community Calendar, Gotham Gazette, idealist.org, feminist.org, New York 1 and the NonProfit Press.
WEBSITE
• Staff are responsible for managing and updating WCC’s website.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
• Rather than scheduled meetings, the Communications Co-Chairs assign member volunteers with writing experience to cover WCC public programs, events and meetings and to write reports for publication in AGENDA.
• Interested members may call the WCC office at 212.353.8070 x 201 and leave a message for the Communications Committee Co-Chairs.
