Co-Chairs: Elsie Diamond and Blaikie Worth
The Membership Committee develops and implements strategies to recruit new members and to retain and engage current ones. The Committee introduces new women (and men) to the Women’s City Club and ensures they are informed about and become involved in WCC activities. Based on the civic and / or organizational interests indicated on each individual’s membership form, her / his contact information is forwarded to the appropriate committee(s) for follow-up by the committee chair.
2007 – 2008 PRIORITIES
RECRUITMENT & RETENTION SURVEY
• Early in 2007, the Membership Committee surveyed the members who had joined the WCC in the 2006 – 2007 program year to learn how women become members of WCC and their perception of how they were welcomed to and integrated into the club after they joined.
Responses provided the following information:
• how they heard about the WCC (e.g. work, community organization, website)
• why they joined (e.g. friend / colleague referral; attended an event)
• demographic profile (e.g. age range, profession, employed, retired, student)
• perceptions of how they were welcomed to and integrated into the organization (e.g. welcomed / called by existing member)
• level of activity subsequent to joining (e.g. participate in a committee, attend programs and other events, no time to participate)
• During the 2007 – 2008 year, the Membership Committee will integrate the responses into its strategies for recruitment and retention.
MEMBER DIRECTORY
• In 2007, the Committee produced the 2nd edition of WCC’s Member Directory.
• The Directory will be distributed to all WCC members to improve and facilitate communication
MENTORING PROGRAM / SOCIAL NETWORKING
• Each new member is assigned a mentor who introduces him / her to WCC members and activities
• Prior to most public programs, a social half-hour is held to enable members and guests to meet and network with one another
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION
• From time to time, a “New Member Orientation” is held at which new and prospective members are introduced to and hear presentations by committee chairs relative to the work of the WCC.
• On occasion, special social events are organized specifically for new and prospective members.
WORK WITH COMMITTEES
• The Membership Committee collaborates with WCC’s civic and standing committees to develop long-term, short-term and one-time volunteer activities to expand opportunities for involvement for existing, new and prospective members
JOIN THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
• WCC members who value the organization and aim to extend its reach are invited to work with the Membership Committee
